Answer to a question from a reader

I received an appointment letter from the Refugee Reception Office (RRO) in Gqeberha. Can I use the same letter for an interview in the Cape Town RRO?

The short answer

Yes, you should be able to get an interview in the new Cape Town RRO in Epping using this letter.

The whole question

Dear Athalie

Can a person who has already received an appointment letter from the Refugee Reception Office (RRO) in Gqeberha use the same letter for an interview in the Cape Town RRO, as the person was assigned to Gqeberha during the time that the Cape Town RRO was not yet taking new refugee applications?

The long answer

Yes, you should be able to get an interview in the new Cape Town RRO in Epping using this letter, but all interviews are done through making an appointment, which you can do by emailing the Cape Town RRO at this email address: inquiries.ctrro@dha.gov.za.

The Scalabrini Centre of Cape Town says:

“There are a number of new asylum applicants who had appointments at Gqeberha  (Port Elizabeth) Refugee Reception Office. If this is you, after going to the Gqeberha Office, you may have received a Home Affairs file number assigned to you (Eg. PTACOD0000022), but you are still waiting for an interview by the Refugee Status Determination Officer (RSDO interview).  You are able to get interviews finalized in Cape Town. To so this you must email the CT RRO Inquiries email address with your newcomer form completed and attached along with your home affairs reference number in the subject line to arrange for interviews at the CT RRO.”

The address of the CT RRO is 12 Grenville Avenue, Epping. It is close to the Langa train station on the central line.
