The short answer
Home Affairs online asylum renewal process has not yet started.
The whole question
Dear Athalie
My asylum document expired on 29 March 2020 (during lockdown). Can I renew it online?
The long answer
Home Affairs has announced that asylum seeker permits that expired during lockdown from 15 March 2020 onwards are considered to have been extended up to 30 June 2021. Home Affairs also confirmed that there will be no penalties for asylum seeker permits that expired after 15 March 2020.
Home Affairs has said that they will be starting an online renewal process for asylum seeker permits but this process has not yet started.
The Scalabrini Organisation of Cape Town has said that it will help clients who may experience difficulties accessing the upcoming online renewal system once it actually starts. This would be a free service.

Wishing you the best,
