Answer to a question from a reader

Am I eligible for the Covid-19 relief grant if I receive a GEPF grant?

The short answer

No, the new social grant is for people who receive no other form of income

The whole question

I am 62 years old and receive no other money besides what I collect from the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF).  Am I eligible for the special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress grant of R350?

The long answer

We're afraid you are not eligible as you receive a GEPF grant and the new social grant is only for people who receive no other form of income at all.

We saw that GEPF pensioners would receive a 3.6% annual pension increase from 1 April 2020, so we hope that may make some difference to you.
