Answer to a question from a reader

How can I check if the RDP house I applied for has been approved?

The long answer

Update: 21 June 2024 - You can check your housing application status on the Housing Subsidy System Online: https://www.hssonline.gov.za/. You only need to enter your ID number. If you think there is an error, contact your local housing office as soon as possible. Always take note of who you speak to, what they say, and the date that you spoke to them.

At the time of writing (September 2019), we could only find a working online site for checking the status of your RDP house in the Western Cape. So if you are in Western Cape, you can enter your ID at this website address:

https://web1.capetown.gov.za/web1/HWL2012Online/

It will give you an immediate reply on your status.

If you are not in the Western Cape you can use this Housing Hotline number: 0800 146 873, or email info@dhs.gov.za.

This is a list of municipality phone numbers where you can ask about your application:

Gauteng: 011 355 4000

Eastern Cape: 043 711 9901/2/3
