Funeral for victims of De Doorns bus accident

A memorial service was held in Khayelitsha stadium on 21 March for the victims of the Hex River bus accident on 15 March 2013.

Fundeka Ndyoki is 22 years old studying at the University of Stellenbosch. She is hurting hurts, she says. She’s struggling to get over the pain of losing her mother and her aunt in the accident.

“All the women in my church travelled to Mmpumalanga, for International Woman’s Day,” she explains. She told says that families had to wait to identify bodies as they some of the victims lost their body parts during the accident and tests had to be done to match body parts.

The memorial service was addressed by several government officials, including Bonginkosi Madikizela the Western Cape MEC for Human Settlements and President Jacob Zuma.
