Aviwe “Pro” Nyamende is a 20-year-old defender who plays for Ajax Cape Town’s youth development team.

Nyamende is in his 2nd year at the club. Previously he’s played as an amateur for Vasco Da Gama. He also played for the Chippa United team that won the Vodacom National Play-offs in 2011. Nyamende says his role model is Thato Mokeke, who plays midfield for the Ajax first team and is only two years older than him.

Nyamende says, “Playing for Ajax is something I wanted ever since I’ve moved to Cape Town. They have the best academy in the country. You get all the proper development you need as a player. I like the type of system they are using and I enjoy playing here. I’m honoured and privileged to have managed to squeeze myself into the academy. Now I’m working hard to get in the first team.”

He has wise words for young aspiring soccer players, “Stay focused. I’ve seen that there’s no loyalty in football. You always have to prove yourself. Most importantly believe in yourself and be patient. Also make sure you work hard and use every chance you get.”
