Lavender Hill’s Nazier Jacobs is a role model
Nazier Jacobs from Lavender Hill is a role model to many aspiring Cape Town soccer players. He is a midfielder for Milano FC and hopes to make it to the PSL.
GroundUp: What is your training schedule like? Do you practice every day?
Nazier: We train once a day, either morning or afternoon, depending on when we are playing. We get off on Wednesday.
GroundUp: Who is the sports icons that has influenced you the most?
Nazier: Ricardo Izecson Dos Santos Leite better known as “Kaka”. He is a very good example for footballers.
GroundUp: Do you have a favourite professional soccer team?
Nazier: It has to be Manchester United.
GroundUp: Do you practice a certain diet while you are training or during the soccer season?
Nazier: Yes every soccer player must have a diet program. You must look after your body because it’s one of your main tools.
GroundUp: With so many amazing goals and wins, what has been your proudest moment on the field?
Nazier: It was last season in the Nedbank Cup, when I played for Vodacom league side Cape Town All Stars. We played against my favourite local team Kaizer Chiefs at Soccer City. it’s most players dream to at least play against one of the top teams in South Africa especially when you haven’t reach PSL level yet. It was a good experience for me, to play against one of the top teams in South Africa especially since I haven’t reached PSL level yet.
GroundUp: Do you have a special routine or superstition before you play a big game?
Nazier: I will say no. Sometimes I watch the documentary of Kaka or I watch videos of the greatest goals in history or just clips of skilful players.
GroundUp: Do you have any advice for GroundUp readers who wish to play professional soccer?
Nazier: Don’t give up. If you believe in your talent and your ability, you can go all the way.
GroundUp: How did you got Involved in Soccer?
Nazier: Eish! I started at the age of five. I never wanted to play soccer. My one cousin made joined Wesley United because he was the better one. But after playing with him all the time in the road my brother and cousin, who was older than us, took me to play for Wesley United. Since that time I have played soccer and enjoyed every moment of it with no regrets.
GroundUp: Where do you see Milano as a team in the future?
Nazier: As one of the best if not the best amateur clubs. I would love to see them in the PSL one day and I want to be part of that moment when they reach it.
