Chairperson of the Ses’khona People’s Rights Movement, Andile Lili, is in Tygerberg hospital after being shot in his vehicle in Khayelitsha last night.

According to Ses’khona Spokesperson Sthembele Majova, Lili was shot four times late last night.

Mark van der Heever in the Communications Department of the Western Cape Department of Health told GroundUp, “We can confirm that we’ve admitted him and he’s currently in a critical condition. The family requested that their privacy be respected.”

Captain FC Van Wyk of SAPS Corporate Communication has told GroundUp, “This office can confirm that the circumstances surrounding an attempted murder of a 39 year old male are being investigated. The victim was shot and wounded last night at around 22:10 in Themba Mazibukord, Makhaza, Harare while sitting in his vehicle. The motive is unknown at this stage and no one has been arrested as yet.”

Ses’khona planned a march against the ANC’s Western Cape offices today.

We will update this story as we receive further information.
