After dropping Audio 3D in June 2012, ‘boom bap’ rapper Sizwe ‘Reason’ Moeketsi simply disappeared from the game.
Reason first captured people’s hearts in 2005, when he dropped his debut album The Reasoning. The spotlight was instantly cast on the rapper, seeing his sound and career move from underground to mainstream, resulting in his songs being played on every radio station in the country. This was partly thanks to track featuring some of the industry’s finest hip hop stars, namely AKA, Proverb, Ill Skillz and HHP.
After being crowned Hype magazine’s King of the Bedroom in 2006, he shot to fame and opened for international artists Ras Kass, Qwazzar (Typical Cats) and more. But where is he now in terms of album releases?
The last we heard from Reason was when he dropped his hard-rap-sweet-melody tune ‘Promise Me’, in December 2013. The song features Vuzu TV presenter Dineo Moeketsi (who can actually sing!), adding a feminine touch to a romantic hard rap sound. In recent months it’s become quite obvious that he’s simply dropping singles and videos to keep his 2012 album, Audio 3D, relevant.
Motif Records is keeping their greatest find strictly on the stage, which many fans aren’t complaining about. But after two years with no new material, the people are starting to become restless.
Whether it’s because album sales are at an all-time low or because he’s planning to pull the wool over our eyes – we’re tired of waiting. Here’s hoping that his next album won’t be an electronic dance music disaster, like the last three songs on Audio 3D. Bring back the cultured rhythm and easy-to-listen-to lyrics – better yet, bring back Reason!
