Four Khayelitsha residents shared their views with us on what they would like President Jacob Zuma to talk about in the State of the Nation Address tonight.
“The president should raise the issues of housing and unemployment. Especially unemployment because the rate is very high.”
“He keeps addressing the same issues every year but nothing changes. I don’t care what he has to say. It’s not like it’s going to change anything.”
“The main issue I would like the president to address is crime. We don’t feel safe walking the streets. Police are not doing anything to help prevent crime. It’s like they just want to get paid and that’s it. And also these thugs that commit these crimes get arrested and come out the next day. The president should address that.”
“The president should address the policy of housing, because in 1994 government said in order for you to qualify for an RDP house you had to earn R3,500 or less and that still applies even today. You get people who earn more that R3,500 who don’t qualify for an RDP house and earn less [than enough] to qualify for a bond house. So he should address that issue.”
