The most famous popular soul artists have been quiet lately. But Zandisile Rhayi and Sonwabile Dzila are back by popular demand. This time with Zoe Nqose.
The event, Pop, Soul and Food, is the brain child of these three artists. It took place at Khayelitsha’s Lookout Hill Hall on 28 October 2012. People came in droves. Tickets were R50 and included a meal.
The three have been in the music industry for quite some time now, experiencing the good and bad side of being township artists. They are now taking a new angle and want to make popular soul music that is classy and interesting.
GroundUp asked Dzila who the target of their music is. He responded, “We cannot be specific and say it’s only for grown up people or this group. Sometimes we do get young people who listen to our music. We are aiming our music now at people who want to buy it.”
Pop, Soul and Food is a new venture that they want to repeat. To do that they need sponsors and supporters. One challenge they face is finding artists who make the same kind of music to perform at their events. Another issue is that many young people are into Hip Hop, Spaza and House.
