The family of 38-year-old Nomanesi Klawushe, who has been found dead after disappearing more than two weeks ago in Delft, have called on the police to act fast to find her killers.
Klawushe was last seen by her family on Saturday, August 6, when she went to visit a neighbour. She did not return.
Police spokesman Frederick van Wyk said a group of children had informed police officers on patrol of a woman’s body lying in the bushes in Delft.
Family spokesperson Portia Ngotya confirmed Klawushe’s murder. .
“We asked the police to show us the spot where her remains were found to pay our respects.”
Ngotya said the area was overgrown with shrubs and bushes and the family wanted it cleared to make it safe for residents.
Van Wyk said the police were investigating a charge of murder and a post mortem would be conducted to determine if Klawushe had also been raped.
No arrests had been made yet, he said.
Chumile Sali, head of and justice at the Social Justice Coalition, said the family had reported Klawushe missing and searched for her in hospitals and police stations.
On August 12, the family had been contacted by Tygerberg Hospital to identify the remains of a severely burnt body found in a bushy area off Symphony Way. Family members had suspected it was Klawushe from her nail polish, and DNA results yesterday had confirmed her identity.
“The SJC supports the demands of the family,” said Sali. “We call on the SAPS Delft Police Precinct to conduct a speedy and thorough investigation. We also call on the community of Delft to provide any information related to the case to the SAPS.”
“The killing of women and children in our communities must come to an end.”
