Equal Education picketed outside Parliament on 28 June because, the organisation alleges, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga has missed her third deadline for filing her answering affidavit in a court case the organisation has brought against her.
The court case deals with minimum standards in school infrastructure. Equal Education says it has granted the Minister two extensions since the application was filed on 2 March.
Along with the picket was an exhibition explaining the school infrastructure problem in South Africa. Equal Education member, Olwethu Mdoda, said “We are in a court case with Minister Motshekga. This is our way of putting pressure on her,” said Mdoda. The organisation is demanding the Minister files her answering affidavit right away.
