We want to hire an excellent news reporter

Do you love reporting? Have you got a proven track record of high-quality published articles? Then joining GroundUp might be a fantastic opportunity for you.

We are looking for a reporter with

  • at least two years experience as a journalist,
  • portfolio of news reporting that is outstanding,
  • excellent command of English writing,
  • understanding of social justice and politics in South Africa, and
  • a valid South African driver's license.

You must be able to work quickly, work long hours and display initiative. You must also be able to work well with a diverse team of journalists.

The job is located in Cape Town. Having a car is an advantage. So is having a camera.

You may include a brief cover letter written in plain text in the body of the email.

You also need to send a portfolio. You may do so using ONE of the following methods:

  • Attach a zipped file to the email containing PDFs of five of your articles.

  • Include 5 URLs in the body of the email to HTML web pages or PDF documents.

Optionally, you can also include a zipped file of your best photographs (JPEG or PNG formats only please) or URLs of your best photos.

Please keep your CV short (two pages is excellent). No need to include references. We will only ask for references from candidates we consider hiring.

Salary is negotiable.

Because we are a small team we will only be able to respond to candidates who we decide to interview.
